GEDCOM Note
He took part in the Battle of Harrisburg where he was wounded. An
erroneous report that he wound was mortal caused his family to believe
him dead until his return home at the end of the war. After
recovering from his wounds, he returned to fight in Forrest's cavalry
until they surrendered in April 1865 at what is now Guntersville, AL.
At the end of the war he returned to Palmersville and the farm where
he remained for the rest of his life.

Uncle Jack PENTECOST
Uncle Jack PENTECOST, an ex-Confederate soldier 75 years
of age, died Friday at his home at Palmersville, following
a protracted illness of several months. The deceased was
one of the best known men in that section, and the esteem
in which he was held was attested by the large number
attending the funeral and interment at Blooming Grove last
Sunday, services being conducted by Bro. Tom MAYO. Mr.
Pentecost was one of those men whom everybody honored and
esteemed for his rugged honesty and strict integrity. His
word was his bond. He had no enemies. His life was an open
book, and, like the good soldier he made during the 60's, he
made a good citizen, rearing a large family of boys and
girls whom the county is proud to claim as citizens, as
follows: Mrs. Neal TUCKER, Mrs. Nulin SNOW, Mrs. Nora KEMP;
Messrs. Bob, Quitman, Don, Irvine, Gus and Clyde PENTECOST.
Two boys - Quitman and Don - are in France.
