About Andrzej Rybicki
Accident 24 - occurred in the 22nd level, No. 11 shaft, South Hecla mine, July 22nd. Andrew Respeske was working with a party laying the skip road from the 21st to the 22nd level, and when the signal to lower the skip, which was loaded with timber was given, the men went out of the shaft at which time by some means one of the timbers fell out of the skip. The noise it made in falling down the shaft must have scared Respeske, who instead of remaining where he was, behind the dividing timbers where he was perfectly safe, jumped into the shaft and being struck by the falling timber was killed.
