28 November 1754: Registered Disposition and Assignation by Ronald McDonald, Captain of Clanranald, substituting Ronald Macdonald, his eldest son, in two dispositions (both dated 5 December 1726) granted by the late Alexander Mackenzie, Clerk of Session to the late Donald McDonald of Benbecula, the granter's father, and himself, in liferent, and to the said Ronald MacDonald, his eldest son, in fee, and reserving liferent to Margaret McLeod, his spouse, of the lands and barony of Kindess and others, under the burdens and conditions mentioned in the said dispositions and the debts contracted by virtue of the faculties therein contained. 27 September 1755: (Copy) Contract whereby Ronald Macdonald, elder of Clanronald, grants to Ronald Macdonald, younger, his eldest son, a tack for 9 years of the lands of Benbecula and others within the parish of South Uist and shire of Inverness, with the liberty of cutting sea-weed and with the whole stocking of cattle etc. (except 6 milk cows and 4 horses) and 3 bolls oats etc., conform to an inventory, reserving to the granter the mansion house of Nuntown with grass for 6 milk cows and 4 horses yearly, casualty of hens etc., and Ronald Mcdonald, younger, binds himself to pay 5000 merks yearly, vis. 4000 merks at two terms yearly, and the remaining 1000 merks to be bestowed for the education of Clanranald's younger children and other incidental uses of his family, with provision that if he be separate from his family, then 3000 merks of the above 4000 shall be paid to him and the other 1000 to his lady, but during their continuance together in family, the said Clanranald binds himself to deliver yearly for use of his family certain cows, butter etc., the price of which is to be deducted out of the tack duty; with power to Ronald Macdonald, younger, to break the tack at the end of every 3 years, and to redeem the wadset of the lands of Balvanich from Angus Macdonald of Milntoun.
