Hugh (Donald, Rory "Red") married first Mary (John "Shoemaker") MacKinnon, Benacadie. They had a son, who on the death of his mother was adopted in Christmas Island. Hugh moved to lona and "granted" land - a holding of one hundred and forty acres - between Barra Glen and St. Columba, adjacent to the property of Thomas MacKinnon, his brother-in-law. To this day, that section of land is often referred to as "coil toghain Domhnull," that is, "Hugh Donald's back land." In a second marriage Hugh married Peggy (Calum John, Hector) Campbell, Barra Glen (see 281) and their family: Michael, Paul, Rory, Angus, and John V. 196

He settled at Rear Christmas Island and married Sarah, daughter of Hugh Gillis (Ban). Issue: —Elizabeth, Hugh, Rory, John, Michael, Murdock, Ann, Stephen, Hector, and Rory.
Hugh, married first, Mary, daughter of John McKinnon (Shoemaker), Benacadie. After her death, he settled at Rear Iona, and he married Peggie, daughter of Malcolm Campbell (John Ban).
Issue: — Michael, Rory, Jonathan, Paul, and Angus.
