WIDOW OF ROBERT M. MORSE DIES

Anna Eliza (Gorham) Morse Lived Nearly Her Entire Life in Jamaica Plain.

Mrs. Anna Eliza (Gorham) Morse, widow of Robert McNeil Morse, the noted Boston lawyer, died Saturday, Dec. 11, at her home at 48 Lakeville place in Jamaica Plain, after only a brief illness. Her death was due to the general infirmities of advanced years, resulting in heart failure.

Mrs. Morse, who was in her 80th year, was born in Boston, and was the daughter of the late James L. Gorham and Jerusha Ann (Wright) Gorham. When she was quite young, her parents moved to Jamaica Plain to make their home, and their daughter lived in the house in Lakeville place, which was built for her father, up to the time of her marriage in November, 1863, to Robert M. Morse. Since then she had continued to reside in Jamaica Plain and the family home was long at 60 Burroughs st. Mr. Morse died in February of this year. Later his widow returned to her girlhood home in. Lakeville place to reside.

As a resident for so many years of Jamaica Plain, Mrs. Morse had various neighborhood interests, including the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, of which for several years she was president, and the Jamaica Plain branch of the Needlework Guild, which she likewise served for some time as president. She was a member of the Unitarian Church and in former years, as a younger woman, took an active part in the work of its women's societies.

Surviving Mrs. Morse are four daughters and a son, who are: Mrs. Daniel D. Lee (Mabel Morse), Mrs. Edgar O. Achorn (Alice Morse), both of Jamaica Plain; Mrs. Louis C. Whiting (Sarah Morse) of Boston and Miss Margaret Fessenden Morse, also of Jamaica Plain, who is well known as a writer of ability and is the author of several books, among which are "The Spirit of the Pines," "On the Road to Arden," and "His Lady." The surviving son is Robert Gorham Morse of Jamaica Plain. Mrs. Morse leaves also several grandchildren.
