ON THE MOUNTAINS HAZELBROOK COTTAGE SCENE TOOK HER CLOTHES In the Divorce Court to-day Annie Jane McManus, formerly Anderson, asked Mr. Justice Davidson to grant her a divorce from James McManus. Petitioner said that from August, 1899, the date of the marrlago, until October, 1927, she and her -husband lived happily together at Newtown. Early in 1927 a Mr. and Mrs. Bright Introduced Norah Robinson to them The Brights had a cottage- at Hazel- brook, and James McManus developed a habit of spending the week-ends there. One Monday petitioner saw him alight from the mountains train. She also saw Norah Robinson. A good-night kiss was exchanged. ' IN TORCH'S BEAM Subsequently petitioner and a friend went to the cottage at Hazelbrook late one night. The occupants were asleep, and petitioner turned an electric torch on a bed in one of the rooms. Norah Robinson screamed, and McManus jumped out of bed. A few words of indignation were exchanged, and Mrs. McManus walked off with Norah Rob inson's clothes. A decree nisi was granted.

  • It is another Ann J Anderson. 1 of the main reasons is where the marriage took place Forbes plus the death notice for Annie J Gunn does not note she has any other children but William McManus.
  • His daughter as you know had died young. The other reason being is because she was still married to James McManus as there are no divorce records for James McManus and Annie J. In addition I have also found the following article which supports the fact that she did not marry him.
  • James McManus died in 1925
  • Her brother-in-law's death Nicholas Reiniers. died 1920
  • James McManus was 56 when he married Annie J who was 21 years old. She had 2 children to him and he died in 1925. The death notice I have attached for you I found when looking for McManus death so I could see if he was with Annie J at death.
  • The death notice I found is actually Nicholas Reiniers, Jessie Reiners Husband. You will find the article very interesting.

'This Death notices is saying that Annie Jane McManus was with her husband James McManus at the time of her brother-in-law's death Nicholas Reiniers.' 'So there for she could not of had married William Spencer Herbert '.

  • I have attached the Death Notices.
  • Another article from Trove which proves that Annie J was still married to McManus after 1912 which is the date that she supposedly married William S Herbert.
