- On the 22 June 1887. DEATH BY BURNING. I am very sorry to have to inform you of a sad accident which occurred here on last Friday morning, whereby a girl 15 years of age lost her life through her clothes catching on fire; her name was Margaret Anderson, daughter of Mr Wm. Anderson of this town, The accident happened this way: she was staying with Mrs Cleaver, and was standing with her back to the fire, when her dress became ignited. She ran into Mrs Cleaver's bedroom to get a blanket and set the bedclothes on fire, Not succeeding in getting a blanket she ran outside, and the fire was ultimately put out by Mr Wm. Davidson, but not until her clothes were burnt off her body up to her waist. She died early Sunday morning. I have since seen the father, who is very much bereaved at the awful occurrence. He says that he has received a great deal of sympathy and kindness from the people in town, and that the good lady members of the Order of Good Templars were exceedingly kind to his poor daughter. When they heard of the accident they went to her and remained with her till the last.
