About Ann Hills
Referred to by nephew Fred McSwiney as "Aunt Annie" in his letter to his mother, Emily nee Hills:
25 May of 1897, Emily's son Fred wrote from Simla India - just before he left for Bombay and a voyage home on the "India" to England on 25th June 1897. He acknowledges his parents' letters of 6th May and says he is glad they both wrote in 'better' spirits. ............."I am looking forward so much to getting home and having a really hippy time - I wish we could do something for poor Aunt Annie in her declining years. You really ought to give her a Home, dear Mother. Just think of her lonely and solitary position - Her proper place is at Barnoldby le Beck and you and she ought to bury the past and live as sisters for the future."
Annie would have been 72 at this time.
