About Lydia Hills
1842 letter from cousin W. H. Perceval Ward at Compton Valence, Dorset, to his Aunt Diana Hills, refers to Lydia (aged 27) nd her brother George being in town and "looking as handsome as they could well be. Lydia I thought from the glimpse I got of her to be improved in every way, both manners and appearance, if I may be allowed to criticize. I hope she will find her residence at Leeds both pleasant and profitable to her, as I am sure it will be to her brother."
1845 Her sister Harriet Maria Hills died of typhus fever at home in Ashen.
1847 Lydia and her sister Dianna were ill at their parents home in Ashen, and their brother Charles ill at Cambridge, causing much distress to their parents (evidenced by a letter dated Sep 20 1847* to their father George Hills from his wife's cousin, George Baker). *letter in private family collection.
