Biography

Ann Rolfe, daughter of Henry Rolfe and Honor Rolfe, was born about 1626, probably in or near Whiteparish, Wiltshire.[1][2] She was probably the "Anna Roulfe the daughter of henry Roulfe" who was baptized at Plaitford, Hampshire on September 15, 1626.[3] Her younger brother John was probably the "John Rofe the sonne of henrie Rofe" who was baptized at Plaitford in 1632.[4] Plaitford is about 4.5 miles southeast of Whiteparish.

Anna married, first, about 1645, Thomas Blanchard of Charleston, son of Thomas and Agnes Blanchard.[1][2][5] Anna and Thomas had the following children:

Mary, b. about 1647,[1][2] m. 1st Josiah Cooper,[1][2] m. 2d Richard Brooks of Boston,[1][2] d. before 1729 (date her estate was probated)[1]
Sarah, b. about 1649,[2] m. Jeremiah Bumstead[1][2]
Anna's first husband, Thomas Blanchard died in December 1650.[1][2][5]

Anna married, second, Richard Gardner of Woburn on October 18, 1651.[6][1][2][5] Anna and Richard had the following children:

Mehitable, b. about 1670 in Charlestown,[2] m. James Connent[1][2]
Anna (Rolfe) Gardner died sometime after 1670. According to an SAR membership application, she died in 1678.[9] Some family trees state that she died on November 16, 1678 in Newbury. However, a reliable source for that assertion needs to be found. Her death is not recorded in the published Newbury vital records.
