Anne Hales

Codicote is a village, and civil parish about seven miles south of Hitchin in Hertfordshire.

Thomas Hales, son of Edward Hales, was born in Codicote about 1504, and died there on 23 Jun 1589..

He married Anne Mitchell, daughter of Edmund Mitchell, before 1535 in Codicote.

He and his wife had at least three children. Their oldest son was Richard.

(Thomas may have descended from Nicholas Hales of Hales Place in Halden, county of Kent 1250 AD. Nicholas' sons were Sir Robert Hales Knight ,Lord High Treasurer of England and Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller of Jerusalem, and Sir Nicholas Hales who inherited the family property when Robert Hales was killed in 1343 in the Peasants revolt. Son of Nicholas Hales Knight was Thomas Hales of Hales Place in Halden. Thomas' sons were Thomas Hales, John Hales and Henry Hales. Henry's son was Gilbert Hales of Leveham, England,. Gilbert's son was Edward Hales of Rumford in Essex, England; Edward's son was Thomas Hales of Codicote in Hertfordshire, England who married Ann Mitchell.)

1. RICHARD HALE, b. in 1536 in Codicote; d. on 3 Feb. 1620 in Kings Walden, Hertfordshire; m. (1) in 1550 MARY LAMBERT, b. about 1540; m. (2) DYONISIA GIFFORD of Somersetshire, England, b. about 1572[6].
2. WILLIAM HALE b. about 1538; d. in 1594; m. ALICE CAULFIELD.
3. JOHN HALE b. about 1540; m. MISS ROLT.

Some sources will claim that sons of Thomas Hale were born at Kings Walden. This is FALSE. Richard, eldest son of Thomas, purchased Kings Walden as a grown man. long after his brothers were born. All the sons of Thomas Hale and Anne Mitchel were born at Codicote, Hertfordshire.
