About Anne de Durfort

According to _Europaische Stammtafeln_, Anne was a daughter of William de La Pole, duke of Suffolk and Alice Chaucer. This is far from certain, though the English genealogist Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk also supports that connection. The main reason Sir Iain gives is that his source, the French genealogist Père Anselme, is generally reliable. However, Anselme has proved to be more reliable on French genealogy than on English connections. Also Père Anselme says only that Anne was the daughter of the duke of Suffolk and makes no mention of her mother. There is the possibility that she was illegitimate. A manuscript exists which gives Alice Chaucer three children: John, William and Anne, but this dates from the 18th century. To date, no 15th-century evidence has surfaced that gives Alice, duchess of Suffolk, a daughter named Anne.

Anne married Gaillard IV de Durfort, seigneur de Duras et de Blanquefort, son of Gaillard III de Durfort, seigneur de Duras et de Blanquefort, and Indie de La Lande. Her husband had entered English service in 1453. They had four children of whom Jean and Marguerite would have progeny. It is not recorded when Anne died.
