Anthon Hilmar Pedersen

Anthon Hilmar Pedersen was born in Ørlandet in Trøndelag the September 16 1859. He was baptised November 20 same year. Anthon was the son of Peder Jørgensen Breivig from Isfjorden, Romsdalen, on the west coast of Norway. His mother was Maren Larsdatter from farm Udhaug on Ørlandet. She later supposedly moved to the Trondheim area and married there (?).

In the census of 1865 for Ørlandet we find Anthon Hilmar Pedersen as the foster child of John Guttormsen, age 48, and Mathea Matias Daughter, age 40, on a croft under Udhaug.

Anthon went to sea early, according to the church records. He came to Lenvik at a young age, around 1880. Working as a part of the crew aboard one of the boats along the coast, he landed in Lenvik, where his father Peder had married and settled down. His uncle John Jørgensen Breivig had also moved here and married in 1879 (see the John-family). Anthon Hilmar from Ørlandet married in Lenvik December 2 1886 with Gertrude Ovedia Olsdatter from farm Finnfjordeidet. Gertrude was born in 1863. Her father was Ole Halvorsen.

Anton and Gertrude lived the first years on the farm of John Jørgensen Breivig in a small cottage. Håkon Anthonsen, 1893-1975, said he was 10 years old when their parents Anthon and Gertrude bought the farm Storelvmoen from his brothers in 1903. They were close to Finnfjordeidet, where the river Storelven is the divide. Anthon and Gertrude had 6 children, where 4 were married, and they have a big posterity with a branch in America, where eldest son Peder Anthonsen emigrated before 1920 (?). Anthon Hilmar died in 1934 and his wife Gertrude Ovedia in 1943.
