About Antoinette Brockway

On November 6, 2014, I received an email message from Celeste Victoria, offering to reconnect relatives of Antoinette Baxter Brockway with a hymnal in her possession. Although Ms Brockway is a distant third great aunt to me, I accepted the book, hoping a closer relative might contact me about it. Michael R. Delahunt

Ms. Celestine de la Victoria wrote:

Found Hymm book Hello, Do you have any connection with the Baxter or Brockway family? I found an old hymn book dated 1849 that belonged to Antoinette Baxter Brockway of Albion, Michigan. If you have any contact with any living family members please let me know. I would like to see if they have any interest in this old book. Thanks, Celeste Victoria [her contact info]

Upon my replying to Celeste's message, she wrote the same day:

The hymn book has a sticker claiming it came from Antoinette’s private library Albion, MI- Book #107. I guess she was organized enough to number her books. There is a handwritten inscription saying that this book for Martha and is the "first hymn book belonging to Martha’s mother". It also has handwritten “Nettie Baxter, Jonesville, Michigan, March 6 1870”. There are penciled in numbers in the top right corner 2.2.15 which might mean Feb. 2, 1915. Not sure??

I am not looking for any money. I just wanted to return this book to any family member who might find it important and interesting. I was happy to stumble upon your genealogy info on the web.

Somehow my father ended up with this book and I found it in his belongings when I was packing up his house to be sold. My father has Alzheimer’s so I could not ask him where it came from. I see that Martha Brockway died in San Bernardino Ca and my father lives in Rowland Heights CA which is 30 minutes away. He ended up with it somehow.

I will be happy to send this book to you next week. You can send me back the shipping if you would like. The book is in good condition considering it’s age.
