About Rev. William H. Brockway

Death: Oct. 21, 1891, Albion, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA

Clergyman. The first Methodist minister licensed to preach in the State of Michigan. Arriving in 1831, he received his ordination and was a "circuit riding preacher" at numerous locations in Michigan's early history. Active in public affairs, he also served in the Michigan House of Representatives, and in the Michigan Senate. During the Civil War, he was appointed by Governor Austin Blair as chaplain of the 16th Michigan Infantry. Coming to Albion in 1848, he served as agent for Albion College for nearly 40 years, and on its board of trustees. Spouses: 1) Clarissa Porter (d. 1871); 2) Anoinette Baxter (d. 1901). Daughter: Mary (See: Mary Dickie).
