The following obituary of Anton Nistler appeared on the front page of the Thursday, February 25,
1943 edition of the Eden Valley [MN] Journal:
"Anton Nistler Died on Saturday Evening"
Anton Nistler, pioneer of this community, died at his home south of town Saturday evening about 8
o'clock, after an illness of four years."He was born at Luxemburg [MN] on January 21, 1879, the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Aloys Nistler, and was just past 64 years of age at the time of his death. He grew to maturity in the Luxemburg and Watkins [MN] area, attending the grade school at Luxemburg, and
carried on his occupation of farming and masonry.
"He was married on October 8, 1902 to Mary Statz of Watkins. They lived in the Watkins community
for five years, spent four years in Oklahoma, four years in Arkansas and four years in North Dakota
before returning here in 1919 and making their home in this community since.
"All of the children, nine sons and two daughters, survive with the mother. The children are: Alois,
Frank, Adolph and Ann of Eden Valley; Marie of Minneapolis; Pvt. Walter Nistler of Foster Field,
Texas; Pvt. Peter Nistler of Camp Indigo, California; Jack of Inglewood, California; Leo of Beach,
North Dakota; Werner of Golva, North Dakota; and Leonard of White Horse, Yukon Territory,
Canada."Also surviving are one siser, Mrs. Mary Strack, of Conway, Arkansas, and five brothers Mike
of St. Paul, Charles of Eden Valley [MN], Joe of St. Cloud [MN], John of Watkins and Aloys of Beach
[ND]. There are four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this morning, Thursday at the Assumption church at 10 o'clock, with the
Rev. Peter J. Gruenes officiating and the men's choir assisting at the requiem mass. Interment was
made in the Assumption cemetery."Active pallbearers were Leo Vossen, William Hansen, Richard,
Ben, Ray and Norbert Nistler, all nephews of the deceased."
