About Werner George Nistler
Appearing in his funeral brochure was the following obituary of Werner G. Nistler:
"Werner George Nistler was born on September 19, 1910 to Mary (Statz) and Anton Nistler
in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was the fifth of eleven children: Aloys, Frank, Leo, Adolph,
Werner, Peter, Marie Hollar, John, Walter, Ann Schoolmeister and Leonard.
"His family moved from Oklahoma to Arkansas in 1912, from Arkansas to the Golva, North
Dakota area in 1915 and from Golva to Minnesota in 1921. In about 1935 he moved back
to North Dakota. On September 18, 1939 he married Louise Evelyn Otremba in St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Golva, North Dakota. They lived near Golva on a farm until 1959 when
the family moved to Beach, North Dakota where they lived for 37 years. His wife, Louise,
died on April 20, 1997. Werner has been residing in Bismarck, North Dakota for the past
several years.
"Werner is the father of ten children: Betty Haupert of Bend, Oregon; Werner Jr. of
Portland, Oregon; Joe of Helena, Montana; Mary Jane Schaap of Colorado Springs,
Colorado; Phyllis Fuller of Fulton, Missouri; Judi Maker of Tillamook, Oregon; Charles of
Portland, Oregon; Arlene Farnsworth of Bismarck, North Dakota; Steve of Helena,
Montana and Sherry Oja of Bismarck, North Dakota. Werner also has 36 Grandchildren
and 4 Great Grandchildren.
"Werner is survived by his ten children, 36 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters
Marie Hollar of Beach, North Dakota and Ann Schoolmeester of Eden Valley, Minnesota;
brothers Walter of Linton, North Dakota and Leonard of Eden Valley, Minnesota."
Werner Nistler spent most of his life farming. In early life he worked as a farm hand. Once
married, he rented farm land, then in the 1960's bought his own land, eventually owning
1200 acres north of Beach, ND and feeding 500 head of cattle in the winter time. He also
worked as a carpenter and on bridge construction to help feed his family.
