Huis Ter Meer also Zuylenburg or Slot te Maarssen, was a knight's court and country estate on the Utrechtse Vecht in the Dutch town of Maarssen.

In the first phase until 1672, Ter Meer was a medieval castle whose name was changed to Zuylenburg around 1526. In 1710 it was replaced by the Ter Meer buitenplaats on the old castle ruins, which was demolished in 1903.

Map of the Vecht region and its surroundings from 1719 by Daniël Stoopendaal in De Zegepralende Vecht.

Presumably in 1083[1] Ter Meer was constructed as a fortified house by Emeritus van der Meer. The first mention comes from 1394 when a family member was besieged with it. It remained in the possession of this family until 1457 after which Jacob van Amerongen became the new owner.

In 1525, it was sold by his family to the Teutonic Order and its Commander Steven van Zuylen van Nijevelt had the house considerably strengthened, expanded and embellished. He also changed the name to Zuylenburg whereby it was also called Slot te Maerssen.

After his death in 1527, the commander Wouter van Amstel van Mijnden lived there.

In 1536 Albert van Egmont van Meeresteijn became the resident and the States of Utrecht recognized the house as a knight's court.

From 1546 to 1788, the buildings remained with the Van Meertens van Esschenstein family or families related to or succeeding them.

Roelant Roghman drew Zuylenburg around 1646; his drawing shows a medieval moated castle consisting of a courtyard surrounded by buildings and two corner towers.

In the Disaster Year of 1672, French troops looted it, set it on fire and left a ruin.

Copper engraving by Andries de Leth from 1739 depicting Huis Ter Meer in Maarssen (Netherlands), at the time a country estate on the Vecht with an extensive French garden.

In 1710, Vincent Maximiliaan van Lockhorst had a large country estate built on this site in the French style, which included an almost one square kilometer French garden. He renamed the buitenplaats Ter Meer. The Lockhorst family remained owners until 1788.

Gradually during the 19th century, the country estate increasingly decayed. In 1880, Hendrik Wilhelm Carl Reijneke van Stüwe and his family moved in. Ter Meer remained inhabited until 1903, after which it was demolished and the parcel of land was used to build houses.

Today only two gateposts of the entrance gate remain visible from Ter Meer. The nearby bridge over the river Vecht is called the Termeer Bridge.
