About Antonio Novicio Luna
Antonio Luna was a Filipino reformist and revolutionary.
While studying pharmacy at the Central University of Madrid, he wrote for "La Solidaridad" under the pseudonym "Taga-ilog". He was among those who revived the Masonic Lodge Solidaridad No. 53 in Madrid.
In May 1894, Antonio Luna returned to the Philippines to study native contagious diseases. He was appointed as the municipal chemist of Manila, and was instrumental in the analysis of the Sibul mineral waters. In 1898, he became the municipal laboratory director.
This sharp-shooter and master swordsman studied military science and tactics in Belgium and was appointed by General Aguinaldo as over-all Commander of the Filipino forces at the outbreak of the Filipino- American War. Like his older brother Juan, he had an ill temper and ignited many feuds which culminated in his assassination by his own men.
