'The pedigree of the family of Armstrongs' by John Armstrong (National Library of Ireland Ms 5216) states that he was born in Fermanagh in 1658, settled at Lusmagh and afterwards at Endrim; married Letitia Playsted at Crea in 1681; fought at the Battle of the Boyne; was a lieutenant in a military regiment of dragoons; was captured and brought to Portumna but saved from execution by Sarsfield; died at Rushinsagh in his 89th year and was buried at Banagher.
