6 January 1560-61: Charter by George Makghee of Eggyrnes to John Dunbar of Mochrum and Elizabeth Mure spouses conjointly for £1000 scots, of a 5 merk 22d land of his 10 merklands of Eggernes and the superiority of a 4 merk 11/4d lands of Eggernes with the myln croft thereof lying in the west part next the mill dam now occupied by Maurice Maknalbany with another croft occupied by Thomas Kennedy and also the croft occupied by John Maknalbany on the east of the said miln and also of the said miln dam and aqueducts leading to the said lands of Eggernes and Carsquhill with the multures etc. of the said lands lying in the parish of Kirkmadryne. Various easements in connection with mill repairs are mentioned. To be held from the granter of the Crown. '12 January 1560-61: Instrument of Sasine at the hand of Peter McIlwyane, N.P. narrating that pursuant to above charter dated Jan. 6 George McGhee infeft John Dunbar and his spouse in the said lands. Done at the principal mansion of 10 merklands of Eggerness, Carsquhill, Lurgis and Knokgrenane. Wit:- Archibald Mure in Arewllane, Mr. Patrick Mure his brother, John Dunbar in Orchardtoun, Patrick McKee of Drumbuy, William Dunbar and Henry McChrakyne. 27 January 1560-61: Instrument at the hand of Peter McIlwyane N.P. narrating that George [Makgee] rentaler and assedator of the teinds (garbarum decimalium) of the 10 merklands of Eggerneis and Carsquhill, constituted John Dunbar of Mochrum his lawful assignee to all right and title to the said teinds, paying to the Prior or Commendator of St. Mary's Isle £10 scots. 19 May 1576: Instrument of Sasine at the hand of Michael McCrekane N.P. narrating that Archibald Mure in Areowlane as bailie of Sir John Dunbar of Mochrum Park on precept dated 7 April and witnessed by Mr.. Patrick Waus of Barnbarrach, George McDowell of Derregill younger, Gavin Dunbar of Bandone and Mr. William McGowin Commissary of Wigton - infeft Robert Lyndesay servitor to the said Sir John Dunbar, as attorney for Alexander Dunbar grandson of Sir John, in the 10 merkland of Egernes, Carsquhill and Lurgis. 13 March 1588-89: Crown Charter to Alexander Stewart of Garleis of the 40/- lands of Cotland of Ylis [being part of] the 6 merklands of Coitland in the parish of Wigton, and also of the advocation of the parish church of Pennynghame, which 40/- land formerly belonged to William Forrester of Kiddisdaill and the said patronage of Pennynghame belonged to John Vaus of Barnbarroch and had been resigned by them into the hands of the Crown; combining the said lands and patronage for all time, paying 1d scots as albe ferme. Wit:- John Lord Hamilton Commendator of Arbroath, Sir John Maitland of Thirlestane Chancellor and Secretary, Patrick Archbishop of St. Andrews, Walter Prior of Blantyre Keeper of the Privy Seal, Alexander Hay of Easter Kennet clerk of Rolls and Council, Sir Lewis Bellenden of Auchnoule Justice Clerk and Robert Scott director of Chancery. tag, no seal. Wit:- John McCrysteine apparent of Munkhill, Michael Cochrane notary, Robert Muir brother to Archibald Muir "my father", and John Vaus notary public. Signed by granter and witnesses. no tags or seal. 29 March 1600: Registration in presence of Patrick Hannay of Kirkdaill sheriff depute of Wigton of a contract dated 16 March between John Muir of Cotland with consent of Archibald Muir in Arowelland his father and of Elspeth McCrystein his mother on the one part, and Robert Hannay in Boghous of Mochrum on the other part whereof for 1300 merks lent by Robert, John Muir is to infeft Robert in a 3 merkland of his 6 merkland of Cotland in parish of Wigton. 18 February 1608: Instrument of Possession at the hand of Alexander Muir, son and apparent heir to Archibald Muir in Arioland, tackman at least possessor of the lands of Cotland procurator for the said Archibald under procurators dated 4 Feb., infeft Robert Ahannay brother german to John Ahannay of Sorbie in the 6 merklands of Cotland conform to instrument made by Archibald to Robert. At Mansion House of Cotland. wit:- William Muir son lawful to said Archibald Muir, Patrick McKie lately in Stronbea, Robert Clauchlein in Cotland and Patrick McTaggart in Wigton. In the said procuratory the above witness Patrick McKie is described as brother in law of William Muir.
