About Archippus McCall
Archippus was the son of James MacKall of Plymouth, MA and Hannah Green. In 1852 Archippus inherited the homestead of his father in Lebanon, Goshen Society. He and always been closely attached to his father's fortunes and to the family lands in Lebanon, and was devoted to agriculture and to the very productive and fertile lands which he had inherited. As a youth in 1741 he was baptized into the Goshen church of his father, and faithful to it all of his life. A harvest of supplies flowed from his acres to the soldiers in the filed during the Revolutionary War, through the inspiration of Governor Trumbull.
That he was not only a man of action in worldly substance, but was also a man of thought is attested by two of the more valuable items of furniture in his home, his bookcases. He died intestate, leaving to his sons the dispostion of his estate.
He married Deborah Marsh in 1746. They had ten children: Jacob, Ozias, Hobart, Anna (Hannah), Mary (Molly), Ozias, Walter, Roger, Green and Deborah McCall. Source: Captain John McCall, 1726-1812: His Ancestors and Descendants by Clare M. McCall.
Archippus MacKall was the third most wealthy man in town in 1761 and the weatlhiest in 1775, with property listed at 327-4 [pounds]. Except for serving on the Goshen Parish Committee for one year, he never filled any postions of leadership.
