In the United States Jannetje was known by the name Johanna. He and his family moved to 7441 Evans Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.
After all the children were born, they moved to Roseland, a suburb of Chicago, and lived in homes on 103rd Place and 104th Street. They then had a new home built at 10111 Wentworth Avenue.
