About Bernard Battenburg
Barney went to Fenger High School in Roseland.
After high school, late twenties, he worked at R. R. Donnelly, entered the apprentice program and became a master printer/compositer. He was a very meticulous workman, a trait for which he was not adequately rewarded. Because of his meticulous attention to detail, he was given the most difficult work while other men has easier work that they could do faster and thus be paid for a greater output. This led him to join a union and leave R. R. Donnelly to work in a union shop.
Barney and Jean had dreams of retiring to California but he survived only a short time. He died of lung cancer.
