The "German Settler" Durrheim Family in South Africa by Erleen T West (nee Durrheim) researched 2009/2011
August Friedrich Gernetzky and Fredericke Luise Durrheim were married by Mr. F. Sandow in the presence of A.W. Durrheim and W. Pape in Hanover on the 27 July 1864. However, in 1867 when Rev. H. Gutsche arrived from Germany their marriage was declared illegal as Mr. Sandow who married the couple was not licensed to act as a marriage officer. Rev Gutsche sought the advice of Rev Hay of Grahamstown and then wrote to the Governor. They were "remarried" on the 6th May 1867 by Carsten Langheim in Frankfort.
