Aveline de Clare, daughter of Roger de Clare and Maud St. Hilary, waa born about 1166 in Hereford.

She married, firstly, Sir William de Munchensey, son of Warin de Munchensey and Agnes FitzJohn, before 1186.

She married, secondly, Sir Geoffrey FitzPiers, 4th Earl of Essex, Chief Justiciar of England, Constable of the Tower of London, Sheriff of Northamptonshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Westmorland, Hampshire, & Shropshire, son of Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud de Mandeville, between 7 May 1204 and 29 May 1205.

5. AVELINE (-[22 Nov 1220/4 Jun 1225]). Her parentage and first marriage are indicated by the order dated 23 Dec 1213 under which her son "Guarinus de Munchainesy" paid a fine for "hereditarie" with "W. com Arundell avunculus ipsius Warini" acting as guarantor[882],
William Earl of Arundel being the son of the second husband of Warin’s paternal grandmother.
King John confirmed "custodiam terre et heredum Willelmi de Mutkanes" to "Willelmo com Arundell", as well as "maritagium Aveline que fuit uxor ipsius Willelmi", by charter dated 7 May 1204[883].
"Gaufridus filius Petri comes Essex" donated property to Winchester St Swithin, for the anniversaries of "…Petri de Lutegareshale patris mei…et Mathildis matris mee…et sponsarum mearum Beatricis et Aveline et liberorum meorum" by undated charter[884].

He was an adult in 1184, died 14 Oct. 1213, bur. Shouldam Priory, Earl of Essex (right of first wife), Justiciar of England, 1198-1213. He was son of Piers de Lutegareshale, d. by 1198, and Maud, lady of Costow, co. Wilts. (CP V 122-125; Vera C.M. London, ed., Cartulary of Bradenstock Priory (London 1979), as Wilts. Re. Soc. 35:85).

Aveline de Clare was the daughter of Roger de Clare, 2nd Earl of Hertford. She married Geoffrey FitzPiers, 1st Earl of Essex, son of Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud (?), before 29 May 1205. She died before 4 June 1225.

HILARY), was born about 1172, and died between 4 April 1225 and 4 Aug. 1225. She married (YE-2) GEOFFREY FITZ PIERS, EARL OF ESSEX of Walden, son of (YE-1) Piers and (YQ-4) Maud (de MANDEVILLE) LUTEGARESHALE, who was born about 1162, and died on 14 Oct. 1213[67]. Birth: c.1178

She was a daughter of Roger of Clare, Earl of Hertford, and his wife, Matilda de St. Hilaire. Aveline married twice. Her first husband, William de Montchaney, died in 1204. She was remarried by 29 May 1205, to Geoffrey Fitz Peter, earl of Essex, as his second wife. She was widowed a second time on 14 October 1213.
King John granted the royal right over her remarriage to her step-brother, William, Earl of Arundel, along with the guardianship of her children by William de Munchanesy, on 7 May 1204. Soon after her second marriage she paid the crown for the ward ship of John de Wahulle and custody of his land.
In her second widowhood, Countess Aveline made gifts to Holy Trinity, London, for the soul of Geoffrey Fitz Peter, part of whose body was buried there. She was buried in Shouldham Priory, founded by Geoffrey Fitz Peter in 1198, alongside the rest of her husband's body.
