He was commanded by his Bro - In Law Capt. Daniel May



Revolutionary War Veteran - He was a Revolutionary Soldier, a Private in the Fourth Company, First Battalion, York County Militia, commanded by his brother-in-law, Captain Daniel May (1777-1778). He saw active service with the famous "Flying Camp" and participated in the battle of Monmouth and the fighting in the territory about Perth Amboy, New Jersey, during the campaign following the evacuation of Philadelphia by the British and their retreat across New Jersey (See Pennsylvania Archives 6th Series - Volume 2). He was later also a Private in the Fifth Company, Third Battalion, York County Militia, Captain Peter Trine, commanding, in the years 1783-1784. (See Prowel's History of York County, Pennsylvania - Volume 1, page 274). He also served as a guard of the British and Hessian prisoners in the prison stockade (Camo Security), then located about four miles east of the town of York, Pennsylvania.
