About Barbara Faivre

Barbara Huss was the fourth and youngest child of Christian Ervin Huss and Marie Herminia Seeger.

Barbara attended elementary school in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Tulsa Central High School, graduating in 1937. She attended the University of Tulsa in 1937 and 1938 and the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado from 1938 until 1940. In 1940 and 1941 she was employed at the Tulsa Public Library. In 1941 she went to Long Beach, California and worked as an expediter at Douglas Aircraft. In 1942 she worked at Hanlon-Waters, Tulsa, Oklahoma. They manufactured wartime equipment.

In April 1943 Barbara joined the United States Marine Corps Womens Reserve, the first woman volunteer from Tulsa, and trained in the third class of the USMCWR at Hunter College, New York. She was assigned to the recruitment and induction center, Chicago, Illinois and Little Rock, Arkansas. She was discharged in October 1945. In January 1946 she returned to the University of Colorado and received her BA degree in August 1947.

On October 4, 1947 Barbara married Charles "Chuck" Edward Faivre III in the Unitarian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The next five years were spent at Twin Lakes Ranch. She recalled this has the happiest time of her life.

In 1952 she accepted a postiion as executive secretary of the Boulder Chapter of the American Red Cross and worked out of the Midwestern area office in St. Louis, Missouri. She was assigned Red Cross field representative in northern Nebraska and southern South Dakota. In 1958 she returned to Tulsa to make her home and in 1967 moved to Morro Bay, California.
