About Barbara Peyton
Western Peyton is Polly/Mary Peyton’s son and not Barbara’ Peyton’s brother. Western was Major Daniel and Mary Roach Peyton’s grandson.
Western was illegitimate son of Polly Peyton per Morgan Co. Ky court records 1830. “Daniel Peyton, appointed guardian of Western Peyton, poor orphan of Polly Peyton, deceased.” Monroe Gevedon wrote in the Lincoln Valley Courier, May 31, 1951: Daniel Peyton b. 1796, ‘laid Patent to the lands from Grassy Lick up to the Payton Fork. Daniel Peyton passed his Patent to his NEPHEW, Western Peyton.’ In another article Monroe Gevedon wrote brothers Philip, Daniel Peyton and a sister along with Western came to Morgan Co. Ky.
Barbara was a daughter of Philip Peyton, b. 1786/7. Barbara md 1st a Hon and md 2nd Western Peyton, her first cousin. No children were born of this marriage, but both had children from their previous marriages. Clory Peyton, Western’s granddaughter, said that Western’s father was Nathan Jeans/Jane/Jayne who left KY to go West. Another collateral line said Western’s father was a James Jean.
Frank Peyton, Western’s great grandson, tested 67 ydna at FTDNA and matched the Jean family surname. There were no Frank’s ydna match with the surname Peyton family.because Western’s mother was Polly Peyton, possibly nickname for Mary. Ydna only matches the male ancestry and not the female ancestry. Polly Peyton is possibly a nickname for Mary. Polly was Western’s unmarried mother.
GEDCOM Note
