!Biographical sketch: Daniel Peyton was a Revolutionary War soldier from Amherst County, VA. , and was subsequently active in the KY. Militia in Lincoln,Montgomery, and Shelby Counties i n KY. He was commissioned a Captain in 1798 in the 21st Regiment of the Montgomery County Mil itia, and a Major in the 1st Battalion, 37th Regiment of Militia in Shelby County, 15 Jun 180 3. 1793, he was summoned to appear in the March term of court in Lincoln County, KY. to show wh y he refused to give a list of his taxable property in these words: "Daniel Peytons taxable P ropertys for the year of 1792 is one Horse,

Sixteen head of Cattle and Ninety five acres of land." Daniel Peyton was active in the fronti er communities in which he lived. In Floyd County, KY., he served as Justice of Peace, Consta ble, and election judge. In 1816, he was appointed a commissioner to procession approximatel y 20,000 acres of land on the Main Fork of Licking Creek. He was one of the

commissioners appointed, 4 Feb 1817, to open a turnpike from Mt. Sterling via Prestonburg t o the Cumberland Mountains on the state line. His name appeared in various deeds of indenture , tax lists, and census records in KY. Daniel Peyton lived in Lincoln County, KY, on the Hang ing Fork Creekduring the 1780's and 1790's, and in Montgomery County, KY, on the Lulbegrud Cr eek during the 1790's and 1800's. He was a resident of Floyd County, KY. in 1808, and was enu merated on the census records of 1810 and 1820 in Floyd County, KY. (Genealogical History, p . 303).

When Daniel (Maj) Peyton was born in 1763 in Stafford, Virginia, his father, Philip, was 43 and his mother, Winifred, was 38. He married Mary Roach-Peyton on September 24, 1785, in Amherst, Virginia. They had four children during their marriage. He died on May 5, 1826, at the age of 63. In regards to his daughter Polly, Major Daniel Peyton was granted guardianship of Polly's son. In Court records it shows he was given guardianship over Polly's orphan son Western. Western was a grandson not a son.
