Barend Oostuizen (1945 - 2014)
Brief overview:
Barend (69), and his daughter, Kathleen (44), worked as a team as car guards in Brakpan, to earn money. On 10th February 2014, they were both shot, in the parking area of a bank in Voortrekker Street, when they attempted to help prevent armed robbers from escaping. A 32-year-old man was going to make a deposit at the ABSA bank, when the two armed males confronted him. One grabbed the black carry bag containing the money and ran towards the parking area at the back of the bank. The father and daughter duo tried to stop them. Both Barend and his daughter were shot in the stomach. The perpetrators dropped the bag, jumped into a getaway car and sped off with three other accomplices.
Barend died in hospital from the gunshot wound on 14th February 2020.
