Barend "Ben" Johannes Vorster (1936 - 2002)
Brief overview:
Ben (65), was murdered by an unknown number of assailants on his farm Annashoop in the Plooysburg district, Northern Cape, on 28th May 2002. Vorster left the farmhouse in the late afternoon to lock up a shop he had on the farm, and returned shortly afterwards with a gunshot wound to the head. His wife Petro called an ambulance, but sadly he died on the way to hospital.

- Three men convicted of killing a Northern Cape farmer were sentenced to lengthy jail terms in the Kimberley High Court today. Klaas Sekgaba, Thumi Maphasa and Josiah Mess were found guilty of murdering Ben Vorster. Sekgaba was sentenced to 20 years' jail for the murder, while Maphasa and Mess both got life sentences. The men also received jail terms of various lengths for theft of firearms, attempted robbery, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. These sentences were to run concurrently with the murder sentences.
