Barnett Reitman

Barnett L. Reitman, was the first of the family to arrive in New York, in June 1880. He lived for some time at 47 Mott Street. He was naturalized on October 9, 1888. On February 20, 1891 he married Fanny Lazarus who had emigrated in 1887. They had 9 children and moved frequently. In 1900 they lived in Brooklyn at 352 Sweidiker Street. In 1901 they moved to Manhattan, the lower East Side at 58 Suffolk Street. In 1904/5 they moved to 2846 Third Avenue. In the Bronx, and later, a few blocks north to 3781 Third Avenue. From about 1909-1911 they lived at 546 Wendover Avenue, a few blocks away from Barnett's sister Dorah (and Harry, Fanny's brother) and Barnett's brother Morris. Bartett lived at 1519 Washingtobn Avenue for about four years. Then in 1917 at 760 East 178th Street, before finally moving to 3150 Rochambeau Avenue, also in the Bronx.

In 1897 Barnett was employed as a clothing cutter. Between 1903 and 1912 he was variously listed as in the pants or trouser business. By 1916 he was in his own business manufacturing trousers under the name of the National Pants Company.
