Henrico Co., VA Deeds 1677-1705, Vol. 3 p. 79 & p. 437 11 July 1693; John Cox Sr. of County & Parish of Henrico to his son Bartholomew Cox of same for love & affection, land he lives on in Henrico Parish, 100 acres, at the river, near Ware Bottom; Signed John Cox; Wit: James Cocke, Henry (X) Cox; Rec. 2 Oct 1693. VA?, ca 1685. I have found her maiden name given as possibly Baugh. I have no documentation to prove this. Bartholomew Witness 1685 in Henrico Co. VA. Witnessed a deed of gift from his father to his brother William. Henrico co. 1685 He bought property in Henrico Co. VA, July 11, 1693 (Book 5, p. 437 Henrico Co. From HOPKINS OF VIRGINIA AND RELATED FAMILIES). Henrico Book 5, p 437, Deed of Gift. "This indenture, made this eleventh day of July in ye fifth year of ye Reign of our Sovereign, Lord and Lady, William and Mary, by the Grace of God of England of France and Ireland, King and Queen defenders of ye faith, etc. and in he year of our Lord God, 1693, between John Cox Sen. of ye county and parish of Henrico, planter of one part and of his son bartholomew Cox, and for ye better living of him in this world as well as for divers other good causes and considerations,"...etc. doth grant him acres therein described, etc. He bought property in Henrico Co. VA, Oct. 2, 1693 (Book 6, p. 439 Henrico County Records. From HOPKINS OF VIRGINIA AND RELATED FAMILIES). Deed states "Know all men by these presents that I, John Cox, Sen. of the County and Parish of Henrico, planter, doe out of the love and affection which I bear unto my Son Bartholomew Cox and Rebecka his wife, and for ye advancement and promotion of their son George, have given, granted, aliened, assigned and sett over and by these presents doe freely, clearly and absolutely give, grant, alien, assign and set over unto my sd Grandson George Cox, ye son of Bartholomew Cox and Rebecka his wife, one Negro girl called Doll, being about a yar old, to have and to hold the sd girl and the issue of her body forever. As witness my hand this eleventh July, 1693." Henry Cox (Signed) John Cox. Ja: Cocke In Book 5, p. 437, Henrico Co. there is a deed of gift from John Cox to his son Bartholomew Cox, dated July 11, 1693, in part as follows: "This indenture made this eleventh day of July in ye fifth year of ye reign of our Sovereign Lord and Lady, William and Mary, by the Grace of God of England of France and Ireland, King and Queen defenders of faith, etc. and in the year of our Lord God, 1693, between John Cox Sen. of ye county and parish of Henrico, planter of one part and his son...." Bartholomew registered to pay taxes in Henrico Co. VA, 1705. Rent Roll Held about 100 acres in Henrico Co., VA in 1704. Will proved in Goochland Co., VA in 1731. Three of Bartholomew's five children appear to have died before he did. Only Frederick and John were living at the time of his will. With all the ties to the Wood family, that one might be explored for the possibility of being Bartholomew's wife's family. She could also be a Morgan or Noulin. It is his son John's children who I have found the most info on. Bartholomew Cox was born before 1665 in Henrico co., Va., and died before June 15, 1731 in Goochland Co., Va.. He married Rebecca (Rebechah or Rebechak) before October 02, 1690, and she died after January 14, 1730/31.

Children of Bartholomew Cox and Rebecca: - John Cox (born March 27, 1703 in Henrico Co., Va.; died before September 13, 1764 in St. James Parish, Lunenburg Co., Va.); - George Cox (b. before July 11, 1693; died before May 21, 1728 in Goochland Co., Va.; married Martha Walton; left a will in Goochland County, Will Book 1, page 3, May 21, 1728, witnessed by Frederick Cox, his brother, and Henry Wood, husband of cousin Martha Cox); - daughter Cox; married a Mr. Baugh and had a son, William Baugh, who was listed in the will of his grandfather, Bartholomew Cox); - Frederick Cox (died before January 27, 1754 in Cumberland Co., Va.; married Elizabeth; left a will dated May 4, 1754, probated January 27, 1754/55, Cumberland Co., Va., listed in Will Book 1, page 90); - William Cox (wife Elizabeth); - Mary Cox (married Moses Wood June 13, 1709).

Bartholomew Cox patented 200 acres, October 20, 1697, on Mahook Creek, which land was passed on in his family. Later this land was in Powhatan Count.

Bartholomew Cox was named in his fathers 1691 will: " Item - I bequeath unto my son, Bartholomew Cox, the plantacon as he now liveth on, beginning at a white oak by the river at a bottom and so up the bottom to a wett slash and so along my head line to Captain Davis's to him and his heirs forever."

The following is a list of the Quit Rent, April 1705, Henrico County, of the five sons of John Cox of Dutch Cap, Coxendale or Harroeattocks:

His will is in Will Book A dated to 14 Jan. 1730/1 and recorded 15 June 1731 naming his wife Rebecca, and leaving bequests to two sons and two grandsons (pg. 215).
