Also served 8-20-1783 to 8-31-1786. 1790 c. Union Co., S.C., 1m+16, 2m-16, 1f, p92. 1800 c. Union Co., S. C., 1m-10, 2m10-15, 1m26-45, 4f-10, 1f26-45, p139 (239?). Migrated to Tenn., returned to S.C., died 1810-1813. Father of Caleb? (to Tex.), Joshua? (or Joseph, to Tex.), and John? (b. 1793, S.C., d. 1865.) Wharton, Bartley, Enlisted 24 April, 1777, served as Sgt, 3rd Regt., under Capt. George Lidell during 1779; was a private after the fall of Charleston. (H & G, v155, aa 8389; u416; na 246; na 853. 1779. Served as a sergeant in the Third Regiment of South Carolina Continental Troops under Captain George Liddell during 1779 and was a private after the fall of Charleston, South Carolina (Reference: South Carolina Roster, Pg # 981). Known as "Bartley" or "Baron". Stub entries to Indents issued in payment of claims against South Carolina growing out of the Revolution Books U-W N416 issued the 7 July 1785 to Bartlett Whorton, for 12 pounds, 8 shillings and 6 pence for Military Duty per account audited. Interest 7 shillings 4 pence.
1786. Bartlett residing in NE corner of Greenville County, South Carolina with Samuel and John Wharton. (Moranges in America and Related Families by Neil H. Howard and Bessie W. Quinn, Banner Press Publishers, Birmingham, Alabama).
1790. Bartlett served on Grand Jury for Union County, South Carolina. (Minutes of the County Court 1785-1799 by Brent H. Holcomb).
1790 Census. Bartley Whorton residing in 96th District, Union County, South Carolina. Free white males of 16 years and upward including heads of families = 1 (Bartlett). Free white males under 16 years of age = 2 (Caleb, 2 years & Joshua, 3 years). Free white females including heads of families = 1 (Sally).
John Whorton and family living in same county, this is possibly the same John, born about 1758, that is in Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1830 (with probable son's William and Bartlett {who may have been named after his uncle}).
1800 Census. Union County, South Carolina. This 1800 Federal Population Schedule (Census) for Union District, South Carolina is the "First" Census for the Union District. The Union District was created from the larger "Ninety-Six" District in 1798. Even though no 1790 Census is listed for Union District, most of the people on pages 45 to 52 on NARS M-637, State Reel 11 were residing in the present-day Union County, South Carolina.

1808. Deed Book P, pg. 319. Clerk of Court Office Spartenburg, South Carolina. I John Townson of Greenville District in consideration of $130 to me paid by Bartlett Wharton of the same district have granted, sold, released and conveyed a tract of land lying and being on both sides of Mill Creek a branch of South Pacolet. Containing 99 acres, being part of a survey dated April 5, 1790. Conveyed to him by John Gowan, dated 5 October, 1808. Wit: John (X) Wharton, Wiley S. Brown. Signed: John (X) Townson. Attested by John Wharton before Benjamine Pollard, JP this 14 December, 1808. Recorded 4 December 1818. (This land sold Deed Book K., pg. 157, by John Wharton to Vadry Camp for $200 on 11 Dec. 1817. 1810: South Carolina Census. Bartlett is not listed in 1810 census because it is believed he died prior to then. Also believed that Caleb had already gone to Tennessee, with Sally and the rest of the family following at a later date.
