About James Bates
He and Ruth lived in Scituate between apprx 1642 and 1650 where some of their children were born. They returned to Hingham.
Note: Hingham was founded in 1635 as the 12th town of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was included within Suffolk County when the county was created May 10, 1643. MBC was merged into the Province of Massachusetts Bay on May 14, 1692. Cohasset was originally the 2nd Parish of Hingham, and it became a separate town in 1770. The southern section of Suffolk (including Cohasset, Hingham, and Hull) was split off to Norfolk County in 1793. and then then Hingham and Hull joined Plymouth County in 1803 - leaving Cohasset as an exclave of Norfolk County. The location of the cemetery is listed with current geographical place names to facilitate identification.
