About Bedrich Reben
He was interned in Mauritius by the British Government who were attempting to stop Jews reaching Palestine. If they did reach Palestine they were then sent to Mauritius. There were 1,600 refugees who arrived in Mauritius in 1940. Bedrich Rebenwurzel managed to leave to fight the Nazis in 1942. He was among a group of Czechs who were allowed to leave the interment camp for south Africa where they then embarked for Palestine.
