About Benedict Leonard Wathen
Leonard, with his brothers, John Baptist and Ignatius, Jr., inherited Wathen's Adventure in Southern Charles County on Zachia Swamp, and it has been accepted that he lived there. However, he was living in St. Mary's County when he sold his inheritance to John Douglas in 1764 and served as a private in the St. Mary's County militia.1
The family moved to Montgomery County from St. Mary's County about 1778, when Leonard bought Constable's Range, Conclusion and Resurvey of conclusion (200 acres) from Robert and Sarah Constable.2
Leonard Wathen died in May 1782. Leonard's widow, Ann, and sons Barton and Gabriel, were named executors of his will.3 When Ann died in 1795, Barton and Gabriel sold the family land to Thomas Knott and Joseph Edelen. 4
