About Benjamin Brashears

17. BENJAMIN4 BRASHEARS (ROBERT3 BRASHEAR, BENOIT (BENJAMIN)2 BRASSEUR, ROBERT1) was born 1666 in Calvert Co, MD, and died Aft. 1735. He married MARY JONES Abt. 1689, daughter of WILLIAM JONES and DOROTHY CAGER.

Children of BENJAMIN BRASHEARS and MARY JONES are:

  • THOMAS5 BRASHEARS, b. 11 Sep 1690; m. ANN VENMAN, 11 Jul 1711.
  • ANN BRASHEARS, b. 04 Jan 1691/92; m. WILLIAM BEVEN, 10 Feb 1725/26.
  • MARY BRASHEARS, b. 17 Nov 1695; m. RICHARD SCAGGS, 1727, Queen Anne's Parish.
  • SARAH BRASHEARS, b. Bet. 1696 - 1697.
  • BENJAMIN JR. BRASHEARS, b. 23 May 1698; d. 1744, Prince Geo Co, MD.
  • ELIZABETH BRASHEARS, b. 30 Mar 1701, Prince George's Co, MD; d. 1775, Prince George's Co, MD.
  • JOHN BRASHEARS, b. 19 Feb 1702/03; d. 1774, Anne Arundel Co, MD.
  • WILLIAM BRASHEARS, b. 15 Mar 1706/07, Prince Georges Co, MD; m. SARAH WALLINGSFORD, 11 Jun 1734; b. 24 Oct 1714, daughter of Benjamin & Elizabeth Wallingsford. Elizabeth Wallingsford named Sarah Brashear in her will dated 7 Apr 1741 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. The inventory of her estate was entered 17 July 1741 and it mentions seven children. The settlement of her estate in 1743 states: To be paid William Brashear for his wife Sarah, daughter of Benjamin Wallingsford. Others named in the estate are: 1/6 to John Brashears, son of Samuel; 1/6 Bazil Brashear; John Brashear and William Brashear (MARYLAND ACCOUNTS, Bk 19, p. 524-525; BRASHEAR QUESTIONS #25, by Charles Brashear). It is unknown whether they had any children. WILLIAM BRASHEAR, who was killed in 1781 by Indians, may have been a son, and NANCY (BRASHEAR) PHELPS' death certificate in LaRue Co., KY listed her parents as William and Sarah Brashear of Virginia. William was a carpenter who apprenticed with his Uncle Samuel Brashear.

William Brashear "Senior" purchased household goods from Peter Hyatt of Prince George's County and the Bill of Sale was recorded on 3 June 1734 in Deed Book T, p. 120. Another deed, for the purchase of land from Peter Hyatt, was recorded on 17 June 1734 in Deed Book T, p. 119. This may have been about the time that William was getting married and was purchasing Peter Hyatt's farm and household goods. The land purchased from Peter Hyatt was known as Major's Lott. It was a 40 acre tract of land located on Collington Branch in northeast Prince Georges County. William & Sarah lived on this property until about 1764 and moved - perhaps to Virginia. The "Senior" may have been used to separate his identity from another William Brashear who was not his son.

  • ELEANOR BRASHEARS, b. 03 Jan 1709/10.

Benjamin died unmarried and gave his estate to sister Martha Kent.
