Benjamin was named in his father's will in 1698.
Otis appears to confuse Benjamin, son of Eleazer, with Benjamin son of James, who probably died unmarried before 1717. Andrews, with information from David Hamblen of Boston who was a descendant of Benjamin Hamblen and Anne Mayo, believed it was Benjamin son of Eleazer who was at Eastham.
This is the story of his death given by Otis: "Benjamin ... worked as a whale fisherman. His death was recorded in the Boston News Letter of 25 August 1737: 'We hear that sometime in the beginning of July, that Capt. Atherton Hough, master of a whaling vessel, being in the streights, killed a large whale and brought her to the vessel's side as usual to cut her up, and as the hands were hoisting the blubber into the hold, the runner of the block gave way, and fell with great force on the head of man that stood underneath, viz: Benjamin Hamblin, of Eastham, Mass., and instantly killed him.'"

"We hear that sometime in the beginning of July, that Capain Atherton Hough, master of a whaling vessel, being in the straights, killed a large whale and brought her to the Vessel's side as usual to cut her up, and as the hands were hoisting the Blubber into the hold, the runner of a block gave away, and fell with great force on the head of a man that stood underneath, viz. Benjamin Hamblen, of Eastham, Mass., and instantly Killed him."
