Note: Ben was the Great-Great Grandfather of infamous Texas gunman,John Wesley Hardin,born 1853 in Bonham,Texas,killed 1895 in the Acme Saloon,El Paso,Texas;Ben is also an ancestor of country music star Tommy Overstreet. Ben was in Anson Co. N.C. about 1752,in S.C.1753,and was granted land in S.C.(which was later in N.C.)1754. Benjamin's son Colonel Joseph Hardin (1734-1801) was a Revolutionary patriot and signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence; he was also a chief designer of the Lost Free State of Franklin (E.Tennessee). Col. Joseph was an original trustee of Greenville(later Tusculum)College. Hardin County in Tennessee is named in his honor.
