Benjamin Murphy, Sr. son of Levin Murphy and Hanna Taylor Murphy, married Mary "Polly" Brown, daughter of Andreas Andrew Brown and Catherine ? Brown on April 28, 1814 in Warren County, Ohio.
Mary had a child when she married Benjamin, Benjamin raised Hettie as his own, children's names are listed on their mothers page.
Notes: Benjamin joined the Military in 1812 and was assigned to Captain David Sutton's Company of Findley's 2nd Regiment of Ohio Volunteers and Militia from April 27, 1812 as a Fifer. He was later assigned as a Private to Captain William Humphrey's Company of Gano's 1st Regiment along with many others from Warren County who later settled in Clinton County (including James Harris).
On April 28, 1814, Benjamin married Mary Brown in Warren County, Ohio, both were of "lawful age". They were married by Enos Williams, JP. Mary had a daughter named Hettie at the time of their marriage. Benjamin treated her as his own and she took the Murphy name.
From "History of McDonough County" "Benjamin Murphy, Sr. born in Delaware and his wife Mary Brown Murphy, was a native of Virginia. Benjamin Murphy was a farmer and arrived in McDonough County in 1858. On January 4, 1859, bought the Hickman Farm in Sciota Twp. from Joseph Gilpen, where he improved, and there pursued his occupation during the remainder of his life.
