About Elizabeth Murphy Murphy

Elizabeth Murphy, daughter of Benjamin J. Murphy, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Brown Murphy, married James Warriner, son of Joseph S. Warriner and ? on February 10, 1861 in McDonough County, Illinois.

Elizabeth and James were parents of 2 daughters. 1. Mary Warriner, married George Ford 2. Sarah Louise "Stella" Warriner, married Orville Madison Sprague

Notes: on James Warriner: Before his marriage to Elizabeth Murphy, James was married to Nancy Stone but she died shortly after their wedding. After the war he took his family to try life on the plains of the Iowa Territory. Indian troubles beset them and farming was poor if not impossible under the circumstances and they soon returned to Macomb, Illinois. In September of 1874 James deserted his family and showed up in Kansas with another woman. He states in an affadavit to the Dept. of the interior, Bureau of Pensions, in December 1900 that he was divorced from Elizabeth and had married Sarah E. Reed on January 31, 1881. He later states that he thought Elizabeth "was ded". At that time he was living in Blue Rapids,Kansas. Elizabeth applied for and received half of his pension based on the fact of his desertion and neglect of his family. She submits numerous testimonies as to her character, duty to her daughters and need of financial assistance. She swears that there was no divorce and that no papers were ever served on her. It seems dear James was a bigamist. Despite all this, after Elizabeth's death, Mary Warriner and her husband, George Ford came to Kansas to live close to her father. They remained there the rest of their lives.

James Warriner died on March 4, 1928 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

James Warriner was in the Military, Between 1862 - 1865 Co I of 124th Illinois Infantry - Civil War (Capt. Griffith)

I do no know where in Kansas James Warriner is buried.
