About Benjamin Jones, Sr.
Scalped and left for dead in the Pascommuck Massacre May 13, 1704. The only survivor of the family. He barely escaped death which took the lives of his father and two brothers.
After the massacre, when his father and two brothers were killed and his mother taken a captive, he appears to have removed with the Janes family to Coventry, Connecticut. Benjamin Janes, with whom he went, was son of the immigrant William Janes or Jeanes, who was a school teacher at New Haven,
He was a "fence viewer" in 1731, on a commision, also to "call the people to the Hall" in 1731.
His date of death is listed as February 1, 1783, age 87 according to a monument in the Beech Plain Cemetary in Sandisfield, MA.
Raised in Massachusetts, Benjamin was scalped in 1704 when he was 9 years old. It happened when his settlement was brutally attacked by Indians. He barely escaped death which took the lives of his father and two brothers. His mother was kidnapped in the incident and later died in captivity. He later married Hannah (last name not known) and had one child, Seth. After Hannah's death in childbirth, he married Patience Evarts and had 9 children. He was a "fence viewer" and held various council positions until his death in 1783 at the age of 87.
