When Benjamin was 7 years old, his mother died. When Benjamin was nearly 15, his grandfather fell from his horse, receiving a wound from which he died. Just 8 months later, Benjamin's father fell from his horse and also died as a result. Dr. Nathaniel Henchman (husband of Benjamin's younger sister Margaret--that is, an uncle by marriage), was named guardian for young Benjamin.
Probably farmer
Benjamin, with his brothers Thomas and Samuel, served as a Private in Captain David Parker's company, which confronted the British expedition at Concord, MA, on 19 April 1775 (the "shot heard round the world"). Benjamin was 32 at the time, already the father of five children.
