About Benjamin W. Stephens, Jr.

On 15 March 1838 Ryle took as his bride Miss Mary Ann Stephens, daughter of Agnes Nelson Stephens & Benjamin Stephens, Jr.

Ryle died of illness while returning to Kentucky via the Missouri River. He'd been visiting in Cass County, MO where a large group of extended family lived: Stephens, Ryles, Haydons, Bradys, Calverts, Wallers and others.

His body was placed in a temporary grave.

His father-in-law, Benjamin Stephens left Cass County when he learned Ryle had died. He intended to claim the body and take it to Boone County, KY for burial. The Missouri River was often rife with cholera. Stephens died within two days of locating Ryle's body. After a time, nephews of Benjamin Stephens from Monroe county, MO returned both bodies to Boone County, KY for proper burial.
