Biography

1701 Will of Thomas Morress (MORRIS) "give to Benjamin York, my stear now coming two yeare old"...Sarah Pinder Sr., Sarah PIndar, and John Pindar are mentioned. Probate Records of the Province of New Hampshire, Vol.1,. p. 487.

[1731 May 27 - among those drawing 40a lots in Canterbury NH were: Benjamin York - lot 4 John York - lot 62 [History of the town of Canterbury NH, 2 vols, 1912, 1/4].

"Voted to the original right of Benjamin York Lot No: 193 for 100 Lbs old tenor paid by Jethro Batchelder and in consideration of sd Batchelder's building on sd lot a sawmill immediately and a grist mill in 14 months, and that he sell Board Plank and Joint and Saw to and for the inhabitants of this town forever at a reasonable rate, and keep the mills in good repair forever." Canterbury Proprietors Records.

1732: Listed at Newmarket, Rockingham, NH (T.H.) by Holbrook in the 1732 Census:along with father and Thomas.

1746 Nov 21: Ben listed in a petition to the General Court for a bridge to be built from Statham to New Market, Nov 21, 1746.. Also listed as signing the petition were Ben Jr. and Thomas York.

1749 to 1759 Noted as Benjamin Jr. in Grantor Index of Rockingham Co. Land Records. Granted, with father, Benjamin, to Ebenzer Smith in 1749, and then alone to Christopher Huntress, 1752, James Palmer, 1758, and Jud Chapman, 1759. Need to see actual documents.

1759: Newmarket in 1759 at about age 81. "Lived with Capt. Richard Hilton as a boy, married Sarah Pindar. Adm. to s. Thomas 1760, Josiah Y. (presum. ano. s.) being pd. for keeping him and his w. for two years.", per Noyes, Libby, Davis," Geneological Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire p.774-775." [Note: this maybe the Hilton who married an Anne York and would explain Benjamin's presence in the household--dy. Need to verify, only conjecture at this point.]

1760 Place: Adm. to s. Thomas being pd. for keeping him and his wife for two years, married Sarah Pinder 1760 Place: Adm. had Josiah York mentioned (son?)

1749 Nov 9: A deed from Col. John Gilman of Exeter to Ben York of New Market land, about 35 acres. Deed states all land except 5 acres I give to your son, John. This land borders the Lamprey River, deed was dated November 9, 1749.

1755: After engagement of Lake George Sept. 8, 1755 First Company under command of Peter Gilman of Exeter included Benjamin York September 19 through Dec. 28. Marched to Albany by way of No. 4, no active service. In Chandler E. Potters Military History of the State of NH 1623 -- 1861.

Daniel Doe had:1756 Benjamin York, Jr. May 12 through Nov. 14 Robert York May 12 through Oct. 13 Benjamin York Sr May 12 through Nov. 21st. In Chandler E. Potters Military History of the State of NH 1623 -- 1861.

1756 In 1756 Ben was wounded when his gun burst. He had been serving at Fort Edward and was on his long march home when the mishap occured.

1758 On April 19, 1758 Ben sold land "Being all my homestead estate in New Market, about 32 acres." In 1758 Jonathan Blunt of Chester presented to the (?) General Court a bill for the care of Ben York who was a soldier in Col. Meserve's regiment.

1759 June 23: On June 23, 1759 Ben made a deposition to the General Court about Mr. Hilton's mill grant and stated he remembers that Capt. Richard Hilton, late of Exeter, had a saw mill near or on the same place where Edward Hilton's saw mill now stands for at least 43 years. Also that Capt. Hilton called the mill his for more than 53 years. Ben was 81 years old at the time the deposition was given. I do not know when Ben and Mary died or where they are buried but presume it to be New Market.

1760 Jan 3: Adminstrator of the estate of Ben York was granted to Thomas York January 3, 1760, who gave bonds. Josiah York is named in the settlement. The widow of Ben York was unnamed in the settlement, but survived him45»145
