About Benno George Barg

BARG, Benno 1933 - 2014 We are saddened by the loss of our father, grandfather, brother and husband Benno Barg who passed away suddenly at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the age of 80. Benno will be sadly missed by his wife and partner of 58 years Jean (nee Hallman). Benno was a loving and dedicated father to Brenda Forsyth (Shane Forsyth), Gerry Barg (Cathy Cardozo), Susan Barg (Alan Strong), Brian Barg and Beth Barg (Ken Fast). Benno will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jordan, Abes, and Katherine Forsyth; Jacob and Christine Strong; Morgan Connery; and Clayton Fast. Dear brother of Werner (Demaris), Else, Fred (Loraine Porter), Paul (Ada), Philip (Renee Kelly), Dorothy (Harold) Neufeld, and Mary Barg (David Roberts). Predeceased by his parents George and Helen (nee Dyck) Barg, sister-in-law Eileen, and brothers-in-law Ward and Lyle Hallman. Benno was actively engaged in a number of community organizations that allowed him to demonstrate his commitment to peace and social justice. Benno was involved in Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) and travelled to places in the world to work for peace in areas of extreme conflict. Benno put others before himself without expectation of reward and recognition. His actions spoke louder than words. An example of that is after receiving a phone call from his close friend Rev. John Hess telling him there was a need, Benno left his career as a science teacher and worked at Warden Woods Community Centre and spent 23 years there, the last 12 as executive director. Benno will be greatly missed by the Breslau Mennonite Church, Warden Woods Community Centre, CPT and many other organizations that were fortunate to have him as a member. For the past 8 years, Benno struggled with Parkinson's Disease which he faced with courage and determination. The Barg family will receive relatives and friends at Breslau Mennonite Church, 226 Woolwich St., Breslau on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. A Celebration of Benno's Life and Faith will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Darrel Toews officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the church. A private family graveside committal service in the adjoining church cemetery will have already taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CPT, Warden Woods Community Centre, Movement Disorder Research and Rehabilitation Centre (MDRC) by contacting the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Apr 4 2020, 17:36:20 UTC
