About Bernard Eldon Holscher
Bernard Holscher, 86, Syracuse, Nebraska, passed away at his home on Saturday morning after a long illness.
Bernard Eldon Holscher was born April 24, 1924 to Herbert and Lizzie (Pruessing) Holscher on a small farm near Unadilla, Nebraska. His family moved to Sterling, Nebraska a short time later, finally settling in Syracuse.
He attended school in Syracuse and graduated in 1943, and entered the Army shortly after. He served in Germany, and took part in the Battle of the Bulge, he was awarded the Bronze Star and 2 Battle Stars. His company also helped in the liberation of the Bachau German camp. He returned from the war on Easter Sunday, 1946.
He was united in marriage with Lorraine Larshus on June 5, 1948. They had 2 daughters Nancy and Kristin. He and Lorraine remained in Syracuse. He worked as a trucker with his own trucks, until he retired in 1976. He was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ. He also served with the Syracuse Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. His hobbies were collecting toy tractors and cast model cars. He enjoyed working and caring for the trailer court he owned, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Holscher of Lincoln, NE and Kristin (Gerald) Kealiher of Polk, NE, granddaughter Erin Holke, and sister in laws, Melva Holscher of Syracue, NE and Ruth Peterson of North Dakota, great grandson Brayden Holke of Riverside California. He was proceeded in death by his wife Lorraine, his parents, his brother Darrel, and his grandson Sgt. Eric Holke.
