Bernardus, comes Papiensis et Parmensis

Son of Manfred, count of Parma.

He married after 945 Rotlinda, widowed daughter of deposed king Hugh and his lover countess Rotrud Roza (Iuno). He inherited the comitatus of Parma and was made count of Pavia under king Berengar II, becoming one of his faithful supporters.

He supported Berengar and his so Adalbert against Otto I, but after Adalbert's final defeat (966), Bernard and Rotlinda founded a church, the canonica of SS. Trinità in Pavia, to which they donated large part of their possessions. Days later they were stripped of titles and remaining possessions by Otto I.

Bernard and Rotlinda were able to be pardoned by Otto II and have their possessions returned; they again donated them to their church (976).
